Caleb Downs Alabama star expected to enter the transfer portal, as per reports

According to sources Caleb Downs is reportedly set to enter his name in the transfer portal, following a standout freshman season with Georgia emerging as the “clear favorite” to land his services. He was one of Alabama’s best defenders as a freshman in 2023.

Caleb Downs had a breakout year recording 107 tackles, one forced fumble, and two interceptions. He was named the SEC Freshman of the Year, and SEC Newcomer of the Year, and also earned AP All-American honors.

His decision comes exactly a week after coach Nick Saban announced his retirement. He is likely to become the best player in the transfer portal this season. Georgia may be the “favorite,” but some other programs are still holding out hope. Last time Ohio State was one of Downs’ top choices before he ultimately committed to Alabama.

 Downs will be one of the most talented and coveted players to enter the transfer portal this season. He is (6 feet, 203 pounds) projected as one of the top picks in the NFL draft 2026.

Josh Downs is the elder brother of Caleb Downs, Gary Downs their father played running back in the NFL for the Giants, Broncos, and Falcons. In college, Caleb Downs chose Alabama over Georgia and Ohio State. Caleb was a five-star recruit and ESPN’s No. 11 recruit in 2023 coming out of high school.
